Established in 1961, Browne Johnson Land Surveyors has served the Columbia-Shuswap region for over 60 years. Home to local, experienced British Columbia Land Surveyors, Browne Johnson is pleased to provide personal, professional service to Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Revelstoke, Armstrong, the North Shuswap, and beyond.

Browne Johnson is truly a full-service land surveying firm. With deep community ties and access to decades of knowledge, Browne Johnson can work with you and fellow land development professionals to get your job done right.

Field of Practice

Browne Johnson Land Surveyors provides a full spectrum of services, including legal surveys, engineering layout and land development planning. Our role extends beyond just positioning — we also work with you and fellow professionals to ensure that your property rights, and the rights of your neighbours, are protected.

Browne Johnson acknowledges that we work on the traditional territory of the Secwepemc and Okanagan peoples, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

The most common surveys in the Columbia-Shuswap area are as follows. Please see our projects page for more:

  • Subdivisions — from initial application to final survey
  • Legal surveys — easements, rights of way, covenants, etc.
  • Site surveys — for development planning
  • Construction surveys — houses, commercial structures, site improvements
  • Building Location Certificates — signed document showing the positions of improvements for mortgage or inspection purposes (similar to an RPR in Alberta)

Browne Johnson can also perform the following work:

  • Aboriginal lands surveys
  • Provincial and federal park boundary surveys
  • GPS and conventional control
  • Photo & LIDAR ground control
  • Mineral tenure surveys
  • Accident scene and forensic surveys
  • Monitoring and landslide analysis surveys

Please see a full list of surveys on our projects page.

Safety

At Browne Johnson Land Surveyors, we believe that safety is the top priority for every job we do. That's why all personnel visiting your job site will have up-to-date first aid and job site safety training, and will be working with well maintained, fully functional vehicles and equipment. Browne Johnson stresses the importance of safety through our comprehensive safety program and during our monthly safety meetings. We ensure that all safety concerns are dealt with promptly and appropriately.

If your job site has a dedicated safety program, we are happy to work with you to make sure our field crew receives the proper training and certification before arriving on site.

Equipment

Browne Johnson Land Surveyors has always worked with modern, efficient equipment. In the field, we use a series of high standard Leica instruments including manual total stations, a robotic total station, survey-grade GNSS receivers, and a precise digital level. Our data collection is streamlined through Leica data collection hardware running specialized field survey software. We operate two fully equipped field survey vehicles (4x4s) with all standard support equipment and supplies, including VHF communications.

In the office, new Windows-based computers form COGO/CAD workstations running Microsurvey CAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Final drawings can be plotted on an ANSI 'E' size colour HP plotter. The office is fully supported with survey-specific organizational software to monitor project workflow. Archives of data since 1961 are held on site, and recent digital data is backed up to a secure, off-site cloud-based storage facility.
